After the declaration of election day in Dominica and dissolve of the current government, the election campaigns of both Dominica Labour Party and United Workers Party has intensified.
The opposition party announced a public meeting in this regard. According to information received from several sources, UWP has planned to corner DLP over electoral reforms issue, along with that they will present all 21 candidates in the fray.
Political experts have already announced that DLP will capture the landslide victory in the upcoming elections, yet the UWP is on its toes to gather as many votes as they can by pushing the issue of the electoral reforms.
A native of Dominica, Jason Handerson said “Why United Workers Party is crying foul on electoral reforms, there has been no issue in the election history of Dominica that any incident of fake voting or anything illegal came to the light. Moreover, UWP even has formed the government back then during the same election system, why they are bouncing the issue now.”
Adding to it, another young Dominican, Erick Johnson said that change is need of the time, but the government made the right choice by not going for electoral reforms during election time. “The electoral reforms are a very complex matter and it requires a thorough understanding of the current system. Any haste in bringing electoral reforms can affect the upcoming general elections.”
“The UWP is advocating the electoral reforms because they already know they are going to lose the upcoming general elections. They just need an excuse to come over the defeat in the elections, so they will blame the government that due to electoral reforms UWP lost elections. People of Dominica are smart enough that they do understand all the ups and downs political parties do to gain votes,” he added.
