Barbados launches first SDGs branded Electronic Bus

Barbados has unveiled the first Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) branded Electronic Bus today (January 21). This electronic bus has been launched in active collaboration with the United Nations (UN) Barbados and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS). The Development symbolises the United Nations' commitment to building a better future and leaving no one behind. Notably, the United Nations Barbados is an intergovernmental organisation that works in active collaboration with the UN Barbados and other Eastern Caribbean states. Collaboratively, these organisations work to support and implement sustainable development goals across the Caribbean nations. As per the Organisation, this Sustainable Development Goals branded electric bus will facilitate, raise awareness and inspire people to #ActNow for the world they want. Reportedly, This #ActNow global campaign is a UN-led movement to inspire action towards achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). From cleaner air to equal opportunities, the SDGs are the roadmap to a just and equitable future for everyone. Further, while highlighting the above vision behind this Development, the UN Barbados also shared some key reasons, encouraging people to take this hop on board. Here are reasons people need to hop on board with SDGs Electronic buses:

Progress on these Global Goals is too slow worldwide. But every Caribbean person and global citizen can change the story.
Imagine hundreds of these buses across the region, such as farmers sharing rainwater techniques and students building school gardens and homes powered by sunshine. Together, this effective initiative can create a tidal of change.

Earlier on Friday, January 19, 2024, a launch event was organised in the presence of several delegations from the Government and Organisational departments. The event took place at the UN centres in Bridgetown. During the event, Didier Trebucq, UN Resident Coordinator for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean states, delivered remarks alongside representatives from partners in this initiative. These include the CEO of CG United Insurance, Randy Graham, COO of the Transport Board Barbados, Lynda Holder, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for the SDGs, and Senator Dr. the Hon. Shantal Munro-Knight.
