Air Europa flight makes emergency landing in Guyana after passenger falls ill mid-air

Guyana: A severe medical emergency occurred onboard the Air Europa Flight, flying to Spain from Peru, following which it had to be diverted to Guyana. The incident took place on Monday around 3:20 pm.
According to the information, the control tower at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport got a distress call around 3 pm, which alerted the authorities about a medical emergency onboard the flight.
The airport’s ambulance and medical team in a coordinated effort were put on high alert immediately. They stood ready to provide assistance to the Air Europa’s aircraft on its arrival to Guyana.
The patient who underwent medical surgery was successfully received and attended to by the medical team upon landing at around 3:52 pm.
After a thorough assessment, the passenger was rushed to the Diamond Hospital for further medical care. After he had come into stable condition, the authorities transferred him to Georgetown Public Hospital for continued treatment.
Meanwhile, the Cheddi Jagan International Airport extended its heartfelt gratitude to all the stakeholders who were involved and provided a professional and quick response to this medical emergency.
The Air Europa Plane, a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, left from Lima, Peru and was diverted to the CJIA. After the sick patient and his colleague disembarked the flight departed Guyana at 5 26 pm for Spain with the rest of the 332 passengers.
The passenger is said to be a doctor from Spain and she was accompanied by a colleague with whom she had travelled to Peru for a volunteer mission.
As the news of the sick passenger went viral on social media, the users have expressed their good wishes to her for a speedy recovery.
“I wish the passenger a speedy recovery and those who had lent a helping hand a big thank u well done,” wrote a user named Rehana Dojoy, while another user said, “Commendable to be in the capacity to accommodate them. Speedy recovery to the passenger.”
