Guyana: Heated argument turns into a brawl , women stabs friend while having a drink

Georgetown, Guyana: The police in Guyana have arrested a woman for allegedly attacking her friend while two were enjoying a weekend drink on Saturday. The victim succeeded in fleeing after sustaining injuries and lodged a complaint with the local police.

Police stated that they are investigating a wounding incident that took place on Saturday evening at the Tasawini Village, North West, District Region #1. The victim is identified as Inez Gouveia, age 45 years, and the suspect is her neighbour and friend Martina Smith, age 39 years.

"Preliminary enquiries disclosed that the victim and the suspect are known to each other since they are neighbours." police told media.

Police officials stated that the two were having wine together on Saturday, but the conversations resulted in a heated argument after Martina Smith attacked her friend Inez Gouveia and caused severe injuries on her left arm.

Investigators stated the victim managed to make her way to Pakera District Hospital, where she was seen and examined by the doctor on duty and admitted in a serious but stable condition.

The suspect was contacted, told of the allegation, cautioned, and she admitted committing the act. She remains in custody while the police is yet to file any charges on her name.

A social media user named Edna Marks expressed outrage at the incident and wrote," The whole incident is a complete waste of time for both females. Now, both will have to be away from their families and work because of their drinking habits and past bad feelings."
