257 COVID-19 cases detected in St Lucia within three days

St Lucian health ministry has declared 257 new coronavirus cases detected in just three days. Authorities stated these patients were first discovered at their local respiratory clinics.

There are over 1813 coronavirus cases confirmed in St Lucia since the first case detected.

Health practitioners immediately placed these individuals in-home quarantine after taking their swabs. The authorities made further arrangements to put these people into government isolation wards to keep a better check of the situation.

Health ministry officials declared that investigations are undergoing for contact tracing of these patients.

St Lucia is currently giving two-way isolation options to coronavirus patients-state-based facilities and community-based isolation. Authorities claim to have improved their isolation strategies are cases rapidly growing.

Two of the existing patients are in critical care at the Respiratory Hospital, and all of the others are immediately constant, stated the health authorities of St Lucia.

The Prime Minister of St. Lucia, Allen Chastanet, has announced that the country will re-enter a state of emergency for an initial period of seven days, which took effect on Wednesday, February 3rd.

Chastanet announced an update to the country on COVID-19 protocols amid a huge increase in cases during the third wave of the virus on the island.

He continued: "This will enable us to further restrict the movement with an evening clock from 19:00 to 05:00 in force on Wednesday, the third of February."

Government and health officials have come under pressure from the public to take action as the country experiences a spate of infections far more serious than what has been seen since the virus landed in Saint Lucia in March 2020.

According to Prime Minister Chastanet, the January figures have almost tripled from 2020, forcing the government to introduce stricter protocols.

The prime minister said the COVID-19 law would be amended to reduce business hours for businesses to coincide with the curfew.
