An Indian national was reportedly shot dead in Cayo District, Belize. The victim's husband, also an Indian national, told police that she was shot three times.

An Indian national was reportedly shot dead in Cayo District, Belize. The victim's husband, also an Indian national, told police that she was shot three times.

The victim has been identified as Ramandeep Mangat (29). Her husband, Gurmeet Mangat (34), told police that they parked their Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck at the corner of Buena Vista and Apolo Street San Ignacio Town.

Gurmeet Mangat said he exited the truck and walked to the nearby vendor to purchase tacos, and left his wife inside. While at the vendor's stall, Mangat says he heard a gunshot and shortly after, his wife began to scream. When he looked toward the vehicle, he then witnessed his wife falling out of the passenger seat. Mangat then rushed her to the San Ignacio community, where she succumbed to three gunshot wounds she received to her body.

Police canvassed the area; however, no expended shells were found, and no useful information was obtained. Police investigations continue. The incident occurred at 8 pm on Friday, March 18, 2022.

The victim's husband, Gurmeet Mangat, is detained for questioning. The police sent Ramandeep Mangat's body for examinations.

The couple lived in Turnley Street, San Ignacio and were Indian nationals. The police are yet to make any arrests in the crime. The police have not revealed if the incident was captured in nearby surveillance cameras. The intentions of the murder are also not clear, as nothing was stolen from the woman.
