The President of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Sylvanie Burton, has proudly made it among the top Caribbean Global Leaders 2024 by Caribbean Global Awards. The list of leaders was released last week and ranked the President at 10th position.

While sharing the list, the Caribbean Global Awards officials said that each of these leaders has shown remarkable dedication to their countries and the wider region.

It further added that their vision, commitment as well as tireless efforts have highly contributed to the progress and prosperity of their countries.

They also extended their warmest congratulations to all the winners and expressed their gratitude to the general public for their participation in this significant recognition process.

Notably, the list of leaders has been comprised under the People’s Choice Awards and marked a historic moment with an unusual 609 valid votes cast.

The list was topped by Guyanese President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali, followed by Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley.

The Caribbean Global Awards strives to celebrate excellence and leadership in the region, and it honours those individuals and organisations who are making huge contributions to the advancement and development of the Caribbean Community.

The complete list of the Caribbean Global Leaders 2024 is as follows:

President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali - Guyana Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley - Barbados Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell - Grenada Prime Minister Andrew Holness - Jamaica Prime Minister Dr Terrance Michael Drew - St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Ralph Everard - St Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Philip Davis - Bahamas Prime Minister Dr Keith Christopher Rowley - Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Gaston Browne - Antigua and Barbuda President Sylvanie Burton - Dominica, Actor Michel Reinette - Guadeloupe The reason behind the Dominican President making it to this prestigious list is very clear. She created history in September 2023 after becoming the first woman and first person from indigenous Kalinago territory to be elected as the President of Dominica. Following her election as the President of Dominica, she said that it is an honour and a privilege to be the first woman president of the country and the first Kalinago individual. She also said that she is the youngest president of Dominica, and this is for the Kalinago people and all women in Dominica.

In addition to this, she also realises the importance of her position for the people of her territory, and one of the areas where she sees room for improvement is on the social level, particularly for charitable organisations that take care of the children and older people of her community.
