Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Mottley has tested COVID-19 positive. As per the office of the prime minister, she has mild symptoms. According to the statement, "the doctors have advised that she remain at home until they deem otherwise."She was all set to participate in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) meeting in Kigali, Rwanda. Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland expressed sadness as Mia Mottley has tested COVID-19 positive. She tweeted, "So sad to hear that my dear sister & friend Mia Amor Mottley won’t be able to join us at the CHOGM2022 in Kigali. She’ll be sorely missed as her voice resonates throughout the world. Get better soon Together always,".Deputy Prime Minister Santia Bradshaw will assume the role of Prime Minister while she is ill, according to reports. Last week, Mottley hosted a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) led by Kristalina Georgieva, the IMF's managing director. Mottley is the latest head of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to test positive for the virus that has infected and killed thousands in the area.Dr Ralph Gonsalves, the Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines, acknowledged last week that he had tested positive for the virus.
