St John's: Antigua and Barbuda on Monday recorded one more coronavirus related death, bringing the toll to 48. The authorities sent out condolences to the family of a 25-year-old female.
The Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) declared the news on Tuesday morning, not stating whether the patient had any pre-existing medical conditions. It is suspected that she was not vaccinated against COVID-19, which deteriorated her health.
As per reports, she had tested positive for COVID-19 and was undergoing treatment. But, due to no improvement in her overall health, the young woman succumbed to death on Tuesday at 1:25pm.
Officials did not immediately made clear the personal details of the patient.
The Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) also released a statement following the death of the female. The centre sent out condolences to the family and also asked people to get vaccinated. The centre said all the health protocols and coronavirus vaccine lowers the risk of severe illness.
SLBC authorities asked people to wear face masks, maintain social distancing, and take all protocols seriously. It also encouraged eligible residents to get their doses of coronavirus vaccines.
Furthermore, SLBC asked the media to respect the privacy of the deceased and also not make any gatherings outside the health centre.
People are shocked to understand how a young person like her could succumb to COVID-19, but it is the reality of the new variants. Every person, whether young or old, are the risk of catching severe virus-related illness if they are not vaccinated or fail to comply with the protocols.
Antigua and Barbuda confirmed over 2297 cases of coronavirus and 48 virus-related deaths. The daily average of coronavirus cases in the country is around 60.
As the cases continue to surge, Prime Minister Gaston Browne indicated a complete lockdown and more stricter measures a few days ago.
