St Vincentian footballer Zenroy Lee murdered, suspect shot by police

St Vincent and the Grenadines: A national footballer from St Vincent and the Grenadines, Zenroy' Chucky' Lee, was shot dead on Wednesday evening. However, the suspect in the shooting incident was subsequently shot by police officials as he was attempting to flee.
According to the information, the police officials acted swiftly in dealing with the incident involving the murder of Lee, who was killed in Murray's village.
The 31 year old was on trials with the Senior Male Team at the time of his death and was preparing for the upcoming 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.
The preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, Romano Pompey, had an argument with the player, which turned into a violent confrontation, following which the suspect left the scene.
After some time, he came back with a gun and shot Zenroy Lee multiple times in the face before fleeing. Lee was left in a brutal state, and he succumbed to his injuries on the scene.
It was reported that police officials were able to locate and apprehend Pompey within a few hours of the incident.
A source revealed that the local police initiated a search operation for the suspect, which ultimately led them to the Redemption Sharpes area. It was reported that Pompey saw the police and began firing on them before trying to escape, but the police managed to corner him and shoot him.
A close relative of the suspect said that he witnessed the entire incident and described it as a brutal murder and stated, "They shot him like a dog."
He said that he heard a police siren and saw two officers by the jeep, following which a series of gunshots were heard. The relative added that he saw the officials reloading their guns and shooting again.
Meanwhile, the St Vincent Football family is mourning the death of the footballer. The Football Federation called him the soil of the son and expressed their sincere condolences to his family, friends and teammates of Richmond Hill United.
