Sharad Arvind Bobde takes oath as India's 47th Chief Justice

In a simple ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Chief Justice of India Sharad Arvind Bobde sworn-in by President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday morning. CJ Bobde, the eight from Maharashtra, is to serve for a tenure of a little over 18 months.
Before Justice Bobde was elevated to the top judicial post in the country, he has decided several vital cases and was part of the recent historic verdict that cleared the way for the construction of a Ram Mandir at the disputed site in Ayodhya.
The 63-year-old, who succeeded Justice Ranjan Gogoi, will have a tenure of over 17 months due to retirement on April 23, 2021.
After following the rule of seniority and recommendation of Justice, Gogoi sent to centre the name of Justice Bobde was considered as the next chief justice of India.
As Chief Justice he will have to set up a seven-judge bench that a bench-led by Supreme court has decided should be set up to hear the review of its 2018 verdict on ending the gender-based restrictions on the entry of women to Sabarimala.
Justice Bobde was elevated to Supreme Court in April 2012 after serving as chief justice of Madhya Pradesh.
Justice Bobde studied law from Nagpur University and began practising law in 1978. Born in 1956, Justice Bobde was designated as a senior advocate in 1998 and later elevated to high court as an additional judge in March 2000.
As a Supreme Court judge, Justice Bobde has been part of benches that have delivered landmark verdicts. In a nine-judge bench of the apex court headed by then, CJI J S Khehar and which included Justice Bobde held unanimously in August 2017 that the Right to Privacy was a constitutionally protected fundamental right in India.
