London: Member of Parliament for Beaconsfield, Joy Morrissey on Thursday wrote a letter to the Prime Minister of the UK, Boris Johnson, expressing concerns over the unprecedented farmers’ protest in India.

Worrying over the situation of farmers British MP writes: “The ongoing and increasingly worrying situation of those farmers currently protesting in India has caused significant concern across the world. Images in media reports of paramilitary police attacking elderly farmers with batons have been particularly shocking.”

She states that the implementation of new farm law was not only implemented without the consultation of the concerned people, but the complete overhaul of one of India’s largest industries was executed in the matter on months, “In a way that disproportionally affects certain communities and that is already having disastrous consequences.”

Naming two states of India, Punjab and Haryana, MP Morrissey wrote that these two states are the ones where some of the most damaging effects will be felt. “These measures were first introduced as emergency ordinances over the summer but have, very swiftly and without proper scrutiny, been passed into law,” she added.

Further, she states: “I believe this is a matter of great importance and impacts many communities, not only in India but here in the UK. It is vital that the UK Government is known to both understand the situation as it unfolds and to express our concern at the impact this is having on the many Indian and UK citizens and their families.”

The impression of Modi government in India is now falling down among the Non-Residential Indians (NRIs) across the globe as the brutal force was used against peacefully protesting farmers against newly introduced farm laws by the central government. Owing to it, several international leaders have given a statement denouncing the behaviour of government against farmers.

The list includes several Member Parliaments from the UK, USA and especially Canada as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke in favour of the farmers. Politicians and NRIs living abroad still deeply rooted in their country have extended their support to the protesting farmers by conducting motorcades and protest walks across their countries.

Apart from this, Canada Defence Minister, Harjit Singh Sajjan – Canadian MP Sukh Dhaliwal – Parliament Secretary of BC, Canada, Rachna Singh – Canadian MP Maninder Sidhu – UK MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi – NDP Leader in Canada, Jagmeet Singh among many other dignitaries across the world have given a voice to Indian farmers protest.
