Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerrit stated that the government managed the COVID-19 very well. He urged the people not to take the situation for granted and follow the guidelines.
During the Anou Palay on Sunday, PM Skerrit advised the general public to be cautious of the COVID-19. He said the situation in the sister nations is proof that only one positive patient can contaminate on extreme levels.
Prime Minister advised the general public to get their COVID-19 vaccines. He said that "vaccine is the armour in country's defence against coronavirus".
He said that as per his point of view, COVID-19 will be like Tuberculosis, and it will be here for a long time, and he asked the people to stay prepared for the new reality.
As per data, over 20517 people have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 19214 are fully immunized against the virus.
Dominica has been saved from the destruction of the COVID-19 pandemic. As per the ministry of health and wellness, there are only five active cases of the virus across the country.
Since 2020, the country recorded 199 cases of the coronavirus, while 194 successfully recovered. Unlike other sister nations, Dominica recorded no virus-related death so far. As per authorities, the positivity rate across the country is only 1%.
The government of Dominica have also softened travel protocols for fully vaccinated individuals. Now, people who had been vaccinated with two doses of a vaccine or a single dose of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine are no longer required to quarantine on arrival. However, the condition is only applicable if they test negative for on arrival COVID-19 testing.
Authorities believe that softening the restrictions is a step ahead in returning to normalcy and it would also assist tourism-related businesses to get back on their feet.
