Police captured the suspect of Quebec stabbing incident that killed 5

Police in Quebec City detained a man on suspicion of killing two people and hurting five others in stabbing violence near the rural legislature on Halloween.

The man, in his mid-20s, was captured on Saturday in conjunction with the Halloween-night attacks and carried to a hospital “for evaluation”, police spokesperson Etienne Doyon stated.

“It’s a man who was dressed in medieval styled clothes. It’s a person who was carrying a sword with him and had its stab wounds – that’s all we can tell you at the time,” said Doyon.

Police briefly cautioned residents to remain indoors as they trailed for the attacker, who was clothed in medieval attire and outfitted with a bladed weapon and left “many victims”.

According to three eyewitnesses, the assailant killed his first victim near the Chateau Frontenac hotel, and there was “a lot of blood”.

The man then proceeded on saying Rue des Remparts, where the second person was killed, before travelling to the Old Port, injuring the other victims.

The five injured people were rushed to a nearby hospital, and a spokeswoman said their lives did not seem to be in jeopardy.

“According to our primary knowledge, nothing symbolises to us that the suspect acted for anything other than personal motive,” police stated in a tweet.

The accused was reposing on the ground, barefoot and hypothermic, when he was captured, Le Soleil announced.

He was wearing a black mask and surrendered to police, according to a newspaper, which announced he had been plotting his crime for a year and a half.

Quebec inhabitant Karin Lacoste announced she was going to a utility market to do some buying around 11 pm when she saw some armed police officers wearing bulletproof vests.

“There was one who informed me ‘go to your home because someone is walking around, he is a killer and he has killed people,'” she told “I was terrified,” added Karin Lacoste

The suspect was arrested quickly before 1am near the Old Port. He was then “investigated” and “brought to the hospital for evaluation”.

“On behalf of the Quebec City police, I want to give my sincerest sympathies to the loved ones and families of the people who lost their lives today,” Doyon stated.
