President Ali attends inauguration ceremony of Amazonia Mall in Providence

Guyana: The President of Guyana - Dr Irfaan Ali attended the grand opening ceremony of the Amazonia Mall in Providence, East Bank Demerara, on 30 July 2021.

The former West Indies cricketer, Ramnaresh Sarwan, is the owner of the mall, which is likely to provide employment to around 300 individuals.

The newly inaugurated Amazonia Mall is having twenty-five stores, eight food courts, an RS 53 Resto-bar and Lounge and a Caribbean Cinemas. The movie theatre in the Amazonia Mall is having six screens and a sitting capacity for around 1000 people.

President Ali has appreciated and praised the efforts of the former West Indies cricketer Sarwan for the investment.

Guyana's Head of the State further asserted that this mall is one of the projects which would add to the development of the East Bank Corridor.

The Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs of Guyana - Anil Nandlall, Senior Minister in the Office of the President with responsibility for Finance - Dr Ashni Singh, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation - Hugh Todd accompanied the President and were present at the inauguration ceremony.

Besides this, Minister of Housing and Water - Collin Croal, Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water - Susan Rodrigues and Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, - Deodat Indar, also attended the opening ceremony.

Despite this, Head of the State has also urged the business community to take advantage of the opportunities available and again called for them to form themselves into consortiums to benefit from large-scale investments.

In addition, President Ali has in his statement cited that the new Guyana which his Government would create would produce required business owners and operators to step outside of their comfort zones and to be innovative with their investments.

The Caribbean island was severely hit by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which has also affected every sector of Guyana. At present, there are around 22,458 COVID-19 confirmed cases, out of which almost 21, 166 patients have recovered from the deadly mutant.

The Caribbean island has so far reported a total of 535 deaths due to the novel coronavirus.
