Man performs C-Section on a turtle to save her eggs

A man from Ann Arbor, Michigan, US, named Eric C Martens, restored faith in humanity after making a very kind gesture of saving the eggs of a mama turtle who was facing complications. Martens said he came across a wounded turtle in his neighbourhood searching for a safe place to lay eggs; after discovering the poor turtle he saw it was struggling to survive after being hit by a car, he performed a C-section on her. Even though the turtle mama could not survive, Martens saved her babies. Dr Eric C Martens, whose profile recognises him as “Gut Microbiome Scientist”, stated that he spotted the reptile on his way back home from work in early June this year.

Martens said he brought the turtle back home, performed secondary euthanasia, made his best attempt at a turtle C-Section, and got seven perfect eggs.

In a thread of Tweets, Eric C Martens revealed that he incubated the eggs after performing a c-section on the turtle.

Eggs have started to hatch, and three tiny turtles are already enjoying their life in the hands of Martens. He also shared the photo of a tiny turtle placed beside a coin, measuring just the same size as a quarter. He suspects that the mother turtle must have left her habitat following a storm. Martens said that the story started with sadness but has a happy ending, and he is pleased to help the reptile save her eggs.
