The famous Soca singer Dexter 'Blaxx' Stewart succumbed to COVID-19 on Monday. The information was confirmed by his manager Giselle Gellineau-Penrose. He was only 59-years-old. He had been hospitalized due to a coronavirus-related illness earlier and was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Arima hospital in east Trinidad. However, his health experienced no major improvements. Notably, even in 2020, Stewart was hospitalized due to lung and kidney-related medical difficulties. Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Keith Rowley, sent out condolences to his family and friends.  "Condolences on the Passing of Dexter 'Blaxx' Stewart, he has been a regular talented exponent of the happy musical culture of Trinidad and Tobago. His contributions were eagerly awaited each year and appreciated by hordes of adoring fans. He will be sorely missed," wrote the Prime Minister.  Leader of Opposition Kamla Persad Bissessar also shared a condolences message on her Facebook account.  The entire country is mourning the passing of their beloved singer and shared messages on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. His admirers remember him as a "people's person" who touched the country with his music. "This is a sad day not only for soca but the whole of Trinidad and Tobago,you will be missed not only by way of your music, but you were a mentor for many youths.My heart goes out for you and your family. We were touched by your music, especially the words of the hulk, which inspire many .Never let your troubles get you down. Dexter was a peoples person. Stay strong, family members and loved ones," Joanne Wickham. "Sad indeed he fought the good fight but lost the battle. Condolences to his family and the Culture Fraternity, may his soul rest in perfect peace," wrote user named Nerissa Dqueen.  "May his Soul Rest in Peace. His contribution was unsurpassed in the way only he could—condolences to his family and loved ones,"Karen Nelson.  "Eternal rest be granted upon his soul.He made a sterling contribution to the Art form of Trinidad and Tobago.Sincerest condolences to his bereaved family and friends.I am one of his fans who will surely miss him," Cheryl Celestine Foster.
