Two including a soldier shot dead in Trinidad and Tobago

A 26-year-old man was shot to death while a 39-year-old woman was badly injured after an unidentified gunman at Bourg Mulatresse fired shots in Trinidad and Tobago.
The incident happened at the corner of Grand Curucaye Road, Bourg Mulatresse, where the soldier of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force named Jamal Blake from Santa Cruz was liming at J&S Bar at around 1.50 am with his friends. Suddenly, two men approached Blake with guns and shot him.
Blake tried to run away, but he fell unconscious nearby due to several gunshots. Police officials asserted that Blake had been shot on his chest several times, while his friend, a 39-year-old woman, was also shot by a gunman and wounded badly. The lady suffered from a gunshot in her right leg. Further, both the gunman fled from the spot.
The soldiers were rushed to the hospital by one of his friends, and the woman was admitted to the hospital facilities by the officials. Both were taken to the Eric Williams Medical Science complexes for treatment; however, Blake was pronounced dead.
Police haven't identified the culprits yet, and the officials from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region II are investigating the matters and motives of the killings.
Earlier on February 6, 2022, the Trinidad and Tobago Police services have considered the month of January as one of the bloodiest months in the country's history as a total of 53 murders have been reported in the country. Moreover, the police have blamed illegal possession of guns and deadly weapons for the surge in murder cases.
As per the reports, out of 53 murders, nine killings were reported in Arima, eight of which were due to the gunshot. On the other hand, South Trinidad reported as many as 11 gun-related murders in the month of January.
