The Ministry of Health St Kitts and Nevis revealed the COVID-19 vaccine statistics on Wednesday. As per the new data, 24,282 people had received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while only 21,906 are fully vaccinated.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Hazel Laws revealed the new data on the briefing of the National Emergency Operations Center on Wednesday. She said the recent vaccine goals is a tremendous achievement.

"Our vaccine coverage is excellent compared to the other OECS (Organization of Eastern Caribbean States) territories and the other CARICOM (Caribbean Community) member countries," stated Dr Laws.

Furthermore, she encouraged more people to come forward to receive their coronavirus doses.

Dr Laws said the high vaccination rate is likely to increase after the September 01 rollout of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccination in the Twin Islands Federation.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved vaccine is available for individuals 12 years of age and older. Health officials have set a target of fully vaccinating 4,800 people between the ages of 12 and 17.

The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, which was offered locally in late February this year, was available exclusively to adults. The stock has since been deleted. The government is working hard to obtain additional COVID-19 vaccines.

Dr Laws strongly encouraged individuals to move forward to take a stand to protect the Federation from the global economic and social damage resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Based on the storage requirements, individuals must make an appointment at the nearest health centre before receiving the life-saving Pfizer BioNTech vaccine. Appointments can also be made by phone at 662-8216.
