Jamaica: 14-year-old ends life by hanging herself in St Catherine
As per police reports a 14-year-old girl has committed suicide at her home in McCook's Pen, St Catherine on Friday afternoon.

Rihanna Campbell, a student at Innswood High School in St Catherine, has been named as the person who died in the incident.

According to reports that reached the media, the teen was discovered hanging from the ceiling of her bedroom by a family member around 1:00 p.m.

An alarm was sounded, and the authorities were dispatched to the scene. The body was later transferred to the mortuary pending the results of the post mortem.

Rihanna's family and relatives are claimed to be disturbed by the occurrence, as she was characterised as a peaceful youngster before it happened. The investigation is still ongoing.

Suicide is becoming more recognised as a worldwide concern. Despite this, little is known about the suicide rates among adolescents around the world. According to the World Health Organization, several societal elements that exist in Jamaica can operate as stresses and may predispose people to commit suicide.

It is critical to understand the patterns that exist and the factors that influence them before developing treatments. The information taken from standardised police data collected over a period of time shows that there has been an increase in number of suicides among teenagers aged 9 to 19 years in the years 2007 to 2010.
