St Kitts and Nevis: The Commissioner Designee of the US Virgin Islands, Louis Peterson was impressed and inspired by the agriculture initiatives being undertaken in St Kitts and Nevis. Peterson has shown his keen interest to learn from the work in building out Cooperatives and covered structure projects.

Through a video message, he also showed his interest in visiting the island nation to further collaborate efforts.

The Minister of Agriculture of the twin island nation, Samal Duggins, was thrilled to witness his eagerness to collaborate and explore synergies between the departments.

“I’m eagerly awaiting his visit to further strengthen our relationship and deepen our collaborative efforts in agriculture. Remember, success is best when it’s shared,” outlined Samal Duggins.

While sharing the development, Minister Duggins said, “Our Department of Agriculture has caught the attention of Mr. Louis Petersen, the Commissioner Designee of the US Virgin Islands, who’s been impressed and inspired by our work in St Kitts.”

In addition to this, Peterson said that he can clearly see some synergies and commonalities and he is looking forward to work with St Kitts and Nevis.

He also cited examples and said that both the countries will work on building cooperatives, teaching the farmers about the cooperative business model.

The Commissioner Designee of the US Virgin Islands was impressed by the initiatives being taken under the 25 by 25 agenda.

He outlined, “We see lots of synergies here, and we are going to be working closely, without a doubt, to build our industry of agriculture in the territory, but better yet, to build our partnership with St Kitts, Nevis, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Cooperatives 25 by 25.”

Agriculture Minister Samal Duggins has always expressed his commitment towards increasing food security in St Kitts and Nevis and is committed to reduce the food import bill by 25% by the year 2025.
