India has recorded the highest number of coronavirus related deaths in the world. On Tuesday, the second-most populous country lost more than 4529 deaths.
The country's total tally has now reached 25.5 million, behind only the United States, with a death toll of 283,248, health ministry data revealed on Wednesday.
The South Asian nation is struggling to handle a disastrous second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic; a survey by data statistics company Morning Consult's tracker of a dozen global leaders revealed that Modi's overall ratings this week stand at only 63 percent, his weakest since the US firm began tracing his popularity in August 2019.
Modi, who swept to gained in 2014 and was re-elected in 2019 with the most considerable majority of any Indian leader in 30 years, has long fostered the image of an influential Hindu nationalist leader.
But India's COVID-19 cases increased past 25 million this week, exhibiting a lack of preparation and decaying Modi's support centre.
The significant decline occurred in April when his net support dropped 22 points. That sharp fall happened as the pandemic appeared to be covering large urban centres such as New Delhi, where clinics ran out of beds, and life-saving oxygen and people losing their lives in parking lots, panting for breath. Bodies heaped up in mortuaries and crematoriums, and outrage grew on social media over the difficulty and noticed lack of government assistance. Since eased in New Delhi and Mumbai as states have fallen, the virus has penetrated deep into India's vast hinterland, where public health facilities are more limited."The people of India – or at least the large bulk – have … come to the end that they have to rely solely on themselves, and their families and friends, to save their lives," said P Chidambaram, an opposition leader from the Congress party.
"In the fight against COVID-19, the state, particularly the central government, has faded away," he stated.Latest
