The government of St Kitts and Nevis will launch a new television (TV) channel next month as part of its aim to nurture and promote indigenous artists as well as the film sector.
The Minister responsible for the Ministry of Entrepreneurship, Entertainment, and Talent Development (MoENT) Akilah Byron-Nisbett, stated that the new channel would provide new chances.
"The Ministry is happy to be able to start its own TV station, which we are dubbing MoENT TV, on July 1st," she said at a Cabinet Press Conference held at the NEMA Conference Room on June 1, 2022."The goal of this channel is to promote local talent by offering free access to a platform dedicated to airing locally produced creative material 24 hours a day, seven days a week."
Other goals mentioned included assisting creatives in improving their craft by establishing content quality standards similar to those used by international TV channels and providing a revenue stream for creatives by channelling advertising revenue to them for ads that run during their product airtime. The Cable, the leading supplier of cable television in St Kitts, will include MoENT TV in its channel lineup.
"We're working closely with the Cable to guarantee that this channel not only has local reach, but also regional and worldwide reach," said Honourable Byron-Nisbett.
She went on to say that engagement with certain foreign providers has been good, with promises to air programming from St Kitts and Nevis as soon as it becomes available.
