Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Leader of People's Action Movement Shawn Richards returned from the United States to St Kitts and Nevis on Wednesday and received a tremendous welcome at Robert L. Bradshaw airport. Richards addressed the media first time after being fired as Deputy Prime Minister by Prime Minister Timothy Harris. During his media interactions, he said that "Dr Harris has hijacked the government".
Shawn Richards stated that the connection between the People's Action Movement (PAM) and the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) is solid and he referred to it as the "real unity".
"PAM and CCM are working together to ensure that the promises that were made to the people of St Kitts and Nevis in 2015 are delivered upon, Dr Harris has hijacked the government, and because of his failed leadership, we have not been able to deliver some of the promises that were made to the people," said Shawn Richards leader of People's Action Movement.

He stated that the People's Action Movement would decide who would be contesting from constituency number 8 by the end of this week. Eugene Hamilton earlier represented the constituency, who replaced Shawn Richards as the deputy prime minister after PM Harris fired six government ministers on Tuesday.
"There are a number of persons who indicated interests in contesting from constituency number 8; I am not fearful in terms of finding a candidate for that seat," said Shawn Richards.
On Tuesday, 10 May 2022, Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Timothy Harris, dissolved the parliament, calling for fresh elections. He also fired six government ministers, including Mark Brantley, Shawn Richards, Jonel Powell, Lindsay Grant, Alexis Jeffers and Eric Evelyn.
As per Timothy Harris, these ministers were not regular in cabinet meetings despite several notifications. The parliament of St Kitts and Nevis is dissolved and now general elections must be held before 08 August 2022.
