St Kitts and Nevis on Thursday recorded four additional cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of active cases to 21, the health ministry stated.

The total number of confirmed cases in St Kitts and Nevis has risen to 78, with 51 being fully recovered from the contagious virus and only 21 active cases across the twin-island nation.

The recent COVID-19 patients are nationals of St Kitts and Nevis who were associated with case number 75 and 78 and were discovered during the contact tracing. Health Ministry noted that the patients are currently in isolation at the COVID-19 certified facility.

Health Ministry noted that the contact tracing started on May 19 and is on a tremendous pace to identify all possible contacts. The authorities are aiming at minimizing the chain of transmission.

Health authorities have urged the people to follow the COVID-19 control measures, wearing of face mask, practising hand hygiene, physical distancing and avoiding crowds.

"The AstraZeneca/Oxford COVID-19 vaccine doses are our main tool in fighting this virus, and we request you to come forward and get an immunization." the health ministry noted.

The vaccination drive of St Kitts and Nevis is active between 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm and any health centre in Nevis during this week between the hours of 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. More than sixty percent of the target population have been vaccinated in St Kitts and Nevis. The government aims at immunizing 70% of the target population. A total of 27,749 doses of the Oxford Astrazeneca vaccine have been administered in St Kitts and Nevis. As per the official statistics, 21,140 doses have been given in St Kitts and 6,609 in Nevis.
