Four charged with defrauding the St Kitts-Nevis government

Four people have been charged as part of an ongoing fraud investigation by the Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force.

The criminal investigation department revealed that charges were levelled on Wednesday.

The police force has named the suspects as Ivas Burnham of Middle Island, Lescelia Francis of Lamberts, Lynette Warner of Conyers and Lejon Warner of Conyers.

In total almost $70,000 was obtained by the four, with all offences taking place some time between 16 November 2016 and 15 March 2017.

It's not yet clear from police whether those charged were working together or separately.

The charges

All four were arrested, formally charged and cautioned on four warrants in the first instance for the offence of obtaining money by false pretence.

Iva Burnham, charged with obtaining $18,700: The offences were allegedly committed between 29 November 2016 and 23 February 2017 in Basseterre and Sandy Point.Lescelia Francis, $11,000: The offences were allegedly committed between 14 and 30 December 2016 in Basseterre.Lynette Warner, $2,500: The offence was allegedly committed on 29 December 2016 at Basseterre.Lejon Warner, $36,500: The offences were allegedly committed between 16 November 2016 and 15 March 2017 at Basseterre and Sandy Point.
