A 25-year-old who was brutally wounded by a teenager in Guyana has been sentenced to one year in prison on Monday. As per reports 25-year-old Ishrim John, also called "Boy," a logger from Kwakwani Park, Upper Berbice River, was arrested by a cop on Friday at about 18:40 hrs and charged with the offence of unlawful wounding which was committed against Nathaniel Gordon, also known as "Buckboy," an 18-year-old man, in violation of Section 30( of the Summary Jurisdiction Act.

According to the initial report, close relatives of John claimed that he was in an area in the village having some beers when he was confronted by Gordon, who allegedly began attacking him for his beers.

John then allegedly fought back, causing the youth to receive injuries to his neck. His relative further alleges that, as a result, Gordon became more enraged with anger and began beating John in his face and head mercilessly.

According to information reaching this publication, John then fell to the ground in an unconscious state, where he remained until he was picked up by cops who were summoned to the location and taken to Kwakwani Hospital.

However, due to his injuries, he was transferred to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he remained for treatment.

Two and a half days later, John was discharged from the hospital last Friday, still trying to recover. After he returned home, he was greeted by cops from the Kwakwani Police Station, who arrested him and took him into custody for unlawfully wounding the youth.

The incident occurred on October 31, 2021, at the Kwakwani Park, Upper Berbice River.

He appeared before her Worship Magistrate, Ms. Wanda Fortune, at the Linden Magistrate Court via Zoom on Monday, where the charge was read to him. John pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 months in prison.
