The small Caribbean island of Dominica is in a much better COVID-19 situation than other countries in the region. The country now has only one COVID-19 positive patient as per the latest data by the health ministry.
The Prime Minister of Commonwealth of Dominica has succeeded in minimising the contamination of the virus on this island nation. The government statistics suggest that over 420 people were tested for the coronavirus and only sixteen had tested positive. There are no contacts under investigation.
This nation has been fortunate, as it recorded zero COVID-19 deaths.
Immediately after the entry of coronavirus in the country, the government imposed a state of emergency and twenty-four-hour lockdown. However, essential services remained open for all.
Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit states that the government has been taking quick actions to stop the contamination of this viral disease by imposing curfews in the country. To assist the inhabitants, the government even delivered food packages to the vulnerable on the island.
While everything remained closed, grocery stores, pharmacies and other essential services were permitted to operate for limited hours daily.
Furthermore, neighbourhood island Guadeloupe currently has 154 confirmed coronavirus cases and 13 deaths so far. St Lucia, on the other hand, is also recovering rapidly as it also has only one coronavirus patient.
The Dominican Republic remains the worse hit with coronavirus in the region with over 10,347w confirmed patients and 388 deaths.
In December 2019, the first coronavirus patient was recorded in Wuhan China, now 4.1 million people worldwide have tested positive, and over 282,000 could not survive this severe pneumonia-like disease.
After China, Italy and Spain, the United States of America recorded the largest number of deaths because of COVID-19.
Scientist all across the world are looking for vaccines to control the virus, as per experts, breaking the chain of this infection is extremely important, which is why all must practice social-distancing.
