Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, on Thursday handed over 51 new climate-resilient homes in the Roseau Central Constituency.

Dominica government hands over 51 climate resilient homes in Roseau Central
Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, on Thursday handed over 51 new climate-resilient homes in the Roseau Central Constituency. The units at the City Breeze Apartments, located on the Upper River Bank, are spacious, modern and built to the highest standards. He said this gift of quality, resilient shelter from the Government and People of Dominica assures residents greater peace, security and comfort; and an enhanced sense of belonging and independence.
"My heart is filled with gladness for 51 families of the Roseau Central Constituency, who received keys to new homes last evening,", Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit
He also congratulated all beneficiaries during the handover ceremony and assured them that the government of Dominica continue to fulfil its promises of climate-resilient housing. 

The construction of on these 60 units consisting of 52 residential, and 8 commercial spaces started in August 2020 and completed in April 2022.

Wife of the Prime Minister Skerrit, and Parliament Representative from Roseau Central, Melissa Skerrit, also joined the handover ceremony. She said she was delighted to officially hand over apartment keys to 51 families of the Roseau Central Constituency on Thursday. She said the homes are located at the newly constructed City Breeze Apartments located on the Upper River Bank. 
"These attractive, modern, and architecturally resilient homes enhance the city of Roseau and have uplifted and improved the lives of many of our citizens. Congratulations to all beneficiaries and safekeeping of these environmentally friendly residences," Melissa Skerrit.
The government of Dominica aims to construct and distribute more than 5,000 climate-resilient homes to people who lost their residences in Hurricane Maria (2017). The country is also working towards becoming the "world's first climate-resilient nation". More than 1500 homes are already constructed and distributed free of cost to the beneficiaries selected through a comprehensive process.

During a media briefing in 2019, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit had stated that "He has a roof over his head and wants that every Dominican should have one too,". The government is committed to providing quality housing, as it believes housing is a fundamental right of citizens.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit's young son and daughter also accompanied their parents during Thursday's handover ceremony in Roseau Upper Bank.  The general public is pleased by the government's commitment towards the country. Many lauded Prime Minister Skerrit after the recent hand-over ceremony.  A user named Irene Monnel Ferrol-Lake wrote on Facebook,"Congratulations to everyone. And to our determined and courageous Leader, I cover you and your family with the blood of Jesus Christ. "Great initiative Mrs Skerrit and congratulations to all recipients, God blessing," wrote a user named Annette Gabory- Terrel.
