The event started by thanking the Lord and then the National Anthem was sung by one of the DLP supporters.
Notably, Gregory Riviere is running against UWP’s candidate Lennox Linton who is also United Worker Party’s Prime Minister Candidate for upcoming general elections of Commonwealth of Dominica.
Gregory ‘Karessah’ addressed the people with his words of wisdom, He said, “If the energy, enthusiasm, co-operation, and sacrifice that I saw over the past few months, if that continues after the election, Marigot will smile again.”
While speaking about absence of opposition in the constituency he said, “In recent time the people have observed a significant decline in community spirit; we have seen hatred cultivated among us in the name of politics. More so, we have seen the total absence of he who was interested in the role of parliamentary representative. So today I humbly accept the call to be the next parliamentary representative of Marigot constituency.”
He also targeted UWP’s Lennox Linton, “If the parliamentary representative of Marigot take a permanent vacation and this constituency needs urgent attention please give him the information that in next general elections, he will be removed from the position.”
During his launch event candidate Gregory ‘Karessah’ Riviere also shared his childhood stories of struggle. He said,” I was raised with my grandmother in Sams Gutter, In those days Sams Gutter people were forced to believe that nothing good will come from this area. People of the area did not know about youth officers, sports officer’s or agriculture officer’s all we knew about was police officers but now this community has produced doctors, nurses, national volleyball champion, sports officers, primary and secondary school teachers and I am convinced that beyond the shadow of doubt as soon as this PM wears his pink shoes, Sams gutter will produce a parliament represented for Marigot constituency.”
In addition to that Gregory said that “I remember seven of us living in a one-bedroom house, our daily menu was easy to remember, it was spread butter and bread from Monday to Friday, breadfruit, and fish and Sunday was our special, it was Rice, peas and stew chicken.”
He said he still remembers the days when he had to rub the pit toilet on every Saturday morning and he is thankful to Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit and Dominica Labour Party who put a policy in place to eradicate pit toilets in the country.
