COVID-19 in Dominica: 311 active cases, highest till now

Minister of Health Dominica Dr Irving McIntyre stated there are currently 311 active coronavirus cases on the island.

Roseau, Dominica: Minister of Health Dominica Dr Irving McIntyre stated there are currently 311 active coronavirus cases on the island. He said all these individuals are confirmed through RT-PCR testing. Dr McIntyre stated the active cases include 159 males and 152 females ranging from 2-year-olds to 88-year-old. He said there had been no virus-related deaths across the country. The health minister said all the symptomatic and asymptomatic patients are recovering and are clinically stable. The patients are currently isolating at the COVID-19 care complexes in Portsmouth. "We have multiple facilities under over COVID-19 care complexes in Portsmouth because the expansion was necessary not only to increase capacity but also to facilitate the differentiation of the cases." stated the Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Irving McIntyre. He said the new facilities are supported by a new structure and include meals and other support services for the patients. Dr McIntyre stated that Dr Adrian is appointed as the director of new facilities to oversee the other seven doctors, including three specialists. Furthermore, he said the government is making sure a wider population is tested against COVID-19, and all testing centres are regularly operating. He said testing was also done at the Dominica State Prison. "I encourage everyone to get tested, whether or not you are displaying symptoms and also if you have been in contact with someone who tested positive," said McIntyre. Dr McIntyre also advised people to stay at a distance from the elderly and other vulnerable individuals. He also asked people to get vaccinated and said doses of Astrazeneca and Sinopharm are still available at the health centres. He noted a large number of individuals who recently tested positive for the virus are unvaccinated. Dominica is undergoing a massive wave of coronavirus cases after a COIVD-19 person attended a Lot event in July, and many tested positive soon after.
