Dominica on Friday launched a digital vaccination card that would make the information more readily available. Minister of Health, Wellness and New Health Investment Dr Irving McIntyre stated that digital proofs of vaccination are increasingly becoming important around the world.
The digital vaccination card is accessible via mobile phones or other electronic devices and is also valid on international platforms. The cards can be downloaded from VAX.DOMINICA.GOV.DM .
Steps to download a digital vaccine card
- Log on to VAX.DOMINICA.GOV.DM
- Fill in your contact information such as name, date of birth, email, government id, email, telephone
- Fill out the code provided to you by health officials on the day of your vaccination
- Submit the information
- Download your digital card
Dr McIntyre emphasized that the launch of digital vaccine cards does not indicate the end of the pandemic, and people must follow guidelines along with getting vaccinated.
"In light of emerging trends around vaccination screening, the development of the digital card is timely as it enables persons to provide proof of vaccination which is increasingly becoming a requirement," said Dr McIntyre.
He also added that Dominica was the first small island developing state to procure Covid-19 vaccines and shared them with its sister Islands.
"We were also the first in the Caribbean to have PCR testing in the public sector. This is just another notch in our belts. The digital vaccination card will facilitate travel and make vaccination information more readily available," said the Health Minister.
He stated that the government aims to digitize several other aspects of the health sector and move away from paper-based records.
"Given the advancement in this digital age, much more of our health care information can be digitalized, and we can move away from the paper-based records. That of course, will make information easier to share and more accessible as we move towards tele medicine," stated the Minister.
"This is being carried out through the "Caribbean Digital Transformation Project", and Dominica has made tremendous progress in this regard," added the Minister.
He also thanked the Covid-19 Vaccination, PAHO and vaccine donors, "The ICT depart must be especially commended for their efforts and most importantly, you the public who continue to come out and get vaccinated,".
He emphasized the fight against Covid-19 is not over and people must be responsible and do what it takes to protect themselves, even if some restrictions have been relaxed.
