The University of the West Indies has announced plans to mark it’s 70th anniversary.
The institution says that celebrations will focus on reflection as well as their projection for the future, with an emphasis on social justice and the economic transformation of the region.
The UWI has grown from a university college in Jamaica with 33 medical students to an internationally respected regional university with almost 50,000 students.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Hilary Beckles has been speaking ahead of the events.
The anniversary year officially begins with an interfaith service at the UWI Chapel on Mona Campus in Jamaica on Sunday, January 7.
