Trinidad welcomes over 3000 passengers aboard 2 cruises on Tuesday

According to the reports, a total of 1254 cruise visitors, 667 from the Jewel of the Seas and 587 from Seven Seas Splendor indulged in their pre booked tours on the island of Trinidad.

Trinidad and Tobago: The Port of Spain in Trinidad was bustling with cruise activity on Tuesday with the inaugural arrival of Seven Seas Splendor with 709 cruise visitors and the return of Royal Caribbean’s Jewel of the Seas with 2344 passengers. According to the reports, a total of 1254 cruise visitors, 667 from the Jewel of the Seas and 587 from Seven Seas Splendor indulged in their pre-booked tours on the island of Trinidad.

Other passengers were entertained portside and had the opportunity to explore the Capital City and purchase crafts by the local artisans.

To mark the inaugural visit of the Seven Seas Splendor, a traditional crest exchange ceremony was also held aboard the cruise which arrived at midday and will be departing at 9 am today.

While welcoming the cruise, Minister of Tourism, Randall Mitchell said that the team was delighted to welcome these magnificent cruises to the shores and their arrival reaffirms that Trinidad is an exciting and desirable destination for visitors from across the world.

The month of February in Trinidad is ending with a busy cruise week with the Ministry of Tourism announcing the arrival of three cruise ships on February 27 and 28. On Tuesday, the island welcomed a combined 3035 passengers while today it will welcome the luxurious cruise Emerald Princess, bringing around 2916 passengers.

The Emerald Princess will be taking 1131 of its passengers on organised tours while using 69 maxi taxis, giving a significant push to the overall earnings of the taxi drivers.

The Ministry announced that the 2023-2024 cruise tourism season has been really successful so far with a total of 25 cruise calls bringing over 57000 passengers and 21097 crew members. It was also reported that around 40000 passengers disembarked to explore the beautiful island, while an average spending of US$43 was recorded per person since the beginning of this season.

According to the data, the cruise passengers have highly contributed to the overall economy of Trinidad and Tobago, giving a major push to local businesses.
