'Pray for her loved ones'

Mark Brantley, St Kitts and Nevis Foreign Minister, paid tribute to the victim on Facebook.

He said: "My heart goes out the family of Lydia Jacobs who was such a beautiful person inside and out. I knew her well and shall miss her dimpled smile. No one in our country should live in fear and no criminal should ever feel safe within our borders.

"I am told the police has made some early arrests and I implore neighbours and friends to say what they know so that we can bring the perpetrators to justice. In the interim I ask you to join me in praying for her loved ones who have been so horribly deprived of their family and friend.

"May her soul rest in eternal peace and may we all as citizens and residents of Nevis and St Kitts unite in her memory to fight crime and violence together. Sorrow may last for the night but we are promised that joy commeth in the morning."

And this murder murder comes less than a month after the shooting death in St Kitts of young businessman Gregory Mills on 9 May, a day before his 28th birthday.

The murder of Lydia Jacobs is the federation's 11th of 2017.
