Police are investigating after one man was shot dead and another left injured in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The incident occurred at Biggz Snackette along Main Street, Old Road, at about 2.30am.

Information from the Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force has so far been sparse but officers have revealed that the victims were playing cards when three masked assailants entered the ‎premises and opened fire.

A motive or the identity of the victims has not been provided, although WIC News has been told by a number of sources that man killed was David Wilkinson from West Farm.

He is understood to have been in his forties.

The other victim is understood to have been transferred to JNF Hospital but his condition is unknown.

WIC News has reached out to the police for further details.

Ian Queeley, commissioner of police, said: “Acts likes this should not be tolerated by society, persons need to speak out and support their police force in making our beautiful country a safe and peaceful place to live, do business and enjoy themselves.”

He encouraged all law-abiding citizens and ‎residents to continue to support the efforts of the force.

The shooting comes days after police recovered illegal weapons from both St Kitts and Nevis.

The total number of firearms seized in 2017 now stands at 40.
