Member of parliament Ivor Stephenson is expected to return to Dominica today after more than five months in Martinique.
The Grand Fond MP was taken to hospital in May after complaining of feeling unwell. He was then flown to Martinique for treatment, where he has remained until now.
Officials have been tightlipped about his condition but sources told WIC News in August that he had suffered a stroke – a fact confirmed by Health Minister Kenneth Darroux this morning.Stephenson will continue to recover in Dominica, undergoing physiotherapy among other treatments.
Speaking about his “level-headed deputy” – Stephenson is the parliamentary secretary in the Ministry of Health – Darroux said: “I want to reassure the nation that the recovery that Honourable Stephenson has made is really remarkable.
“Even the doctors in Martinique, with many years of experience, they’ve been amazed at the recovery that he has made.”
Darroux added he would be going to visit his colleague shortly after the news briefing.
