Jamaican Sprinter Brianna Lyston who currently holds the 200m under-13s world record in 23.72 seconds just signed a Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) deal with Adidas.
The athletic sensation took to Instagram to write “Philippians 2:13 “For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.” Blessed to announce my partnership with Adidas through NIL.”Louisiana State University student Lyston, marking a notable milestone in her athletic career. She has stated that she has no intent to drop out of school and wishes to balance her athletic and academic careers.
On January 27th she timed an astonishing 7.07 seconds securing a victory in the women’s 60m event. Solidifying her name in the LSU book of records. Lyston’s time ties with former NCAA 100m champion Aleia Hobbs placing her at the top of the schools all-time performers. The performance also placed Lyston at the top of the NCAA's descending order list for 2024.
Her newly developed partnership with Adidas has provided her with the backing and practical encouragement she needs to continue her athletic pursuits. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the overseeing body of college athletes in the United States has often opposed such negotiations and deals, with the concern that these students might be taken advantage of and encouraged to cut academic ties further down the line.
The deal took place not even two weeks after she was named the athlete of the week by the U.S. Track & field and Cross-country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Lyston’s consistently impressive performance on the field has put her on the map, at least in the world of athletics; her last notable accomplishment was when Lyston won her 100m heat in a personal best 11.14 at the 2022 Central Athletics Championships in Spanish Town, Jamaica to beat Tia Clayton for the gold. In addition to Lyston’s recognition, the former St Jago and Hydel High standout ran 23.13 for the bronze in 200m at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic on the 2nd of February.Latest
