ICC names Guyanese fast-bowler Shamar Joseph as Player Of The Month

The Guyanese and West Indies fast-bowler Shamar Joseph has been named the International Cricket Council Player for the month of January 2024.

It also talked about West Indies quickly rising from almost anonymity to the verge of stardom after just two matches.

It further said that Joseph's introduction to international cricket caught everyone's eyes, with the right arm beating out strong opposition from England batter Ollie Pope and Australian seamer Josh Hazlewood to secure the first men's monthly award for the new calendar year.In addition to this, the cricketer has also earned himself a spot in the Indian Premier League 2024. Shamar Joseph is set to join Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as a replacement for pacer Mark Wood for the upcoming edition of IPL will be joining for INR 3 Crore.
The Guyanese cricketer claimed remarkable figures of 7-68 in just his second Test to steer the West Indies to a gripping eight-run victory over Australia at the Gabba.The 24-year-old looked unlikely to bowl at all on day four after a Mitchell Starc yorker badly injured his toe the night before, but he instead became part of cricket folklore to claim honours as player of the series.
It was the West Indies’ first Test win over Australia since 2003 and their first on Australian soil since 1997.
The Test Cricket Sensation returned back home on February 2 and received a heroic welcome. He was greeted by his family and hundreds of adoring fans at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, showing citizens' love for him.Joseph's recent achievements include being named the Player of the Match and Player of the Series in the historic Gabba Test. The pacer was given a contract by Peshawar Zalmi for PSL 2024 and an Indian Premier League contract.
Now, his recent achievement of being named the International Cricket Council Player is also being lauded by people all around the Caribbean region.
