GCF hosts National Stakeholder Workshop in Dominica

Roseau, Dominica: The Green Climate Fund (GCF) hosted a national stakeholder workshop on Wednesday. This aimed at strengthening the climate resilience of communities and ecosystems along Dominica’s coastal areas.

The workshop with its official launch, outlined the stakeholder consultation process for the preparation of GCF Funding Proposal for the project “Developing Climate Resilient Integrated Coastal Zone Management in Dominica.

Such a project initiated is set to respond to the challenges posed to the coastal communities by climate change. This includes the damage to the infrastructure from terrestrial and coastal flooding and storm surges, the impact of hurricanes on natural assets such as coral reefs resulting in the loss of livelihoods, including in the fisheries, agriculture and tourism sectors.

Participants from various governmental and private sectors as well revealed their participation. Under the workshop, they discussed the strengthening of national and local adaptation planning processes. This as well included the insights that could make its way in implementing coastal protection measures.

This projects an idea for strengthening the private sector investment in climate adaptive practices to support early recovery from hurricane events. There was no limit to the discussions included in the workshop. These will be focused on the ways to improve the use of climate information in decision-making in the finance and insurance sectors.

Such a workshop held in the country, Dominica as is set to respond to the challenges that have come ahead and are affecting the coastal communities by the climate change, would surely bring out the positive change in the country through such an initiative.

Significantly, the insights gathered through the workshop would make significant changes in the finance and insurance sectors. These both sectors would flourish, and will contribute towards the better times in Dominica. Agriculture, being one of the most revenue generating sectors in the country after tourism, states its significance.
