French couple seeking to adopt child killed in Haiti

A French couple seeking to parent a child from the Caribbean country got murder, officials in Haiti said on Monday investigating the murder case.

Delmas Police Commissioner Marcelin Kether told the Press that the couple was killed Sunday night shortly after they landed in Haiti, it was their first visit in the country.

Commissioner said they were killed outside a guest house while they were waiting for a taxi as their driver opened a gate.

Kether said the driver told police that at least two suspects appeared on a motorbike and shot the French citizens but didn't rob anything. The driver was detained for questioning.

Police investigator Calin Joseph said the victims were identified as Remond Alexandre and Melina Ana Therese. Joseph guesses the suspects were trying to rob the couple.

France's Foreign Ministry expressed its sympathies to the victims' families and loved ones in a statement sent to the Press.

It said the Haitian authorities and the French government are working to investigate the deaths.
