The specific plans and policies of the opposition St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) that will address the challenges that the twin-island federation are facing will be unveiled as the soon to be called general elections draw closer and the manifesto and platform are rolled out.
However, the party's political leader, the Rt Hon Dr Denzil L Douglas has been explaining the principle of the Labour Party's NextGen SKN Team.
"It simply means using all of the latest technologies and cutting edge innovative best practices to allow for greater inclusion of all citizens, regardless of gender, age, sexual orientation, creed or political affiliation, who should have direct access to and influence over the government and that government policies which leave no one out of experiencing and benefitting from the national prosperity agenda," said Dr Douglas.
He said consultation will play an important role in that those affected the most by the decisions that the government takes are consulted and have a say on the issues before action is taken and not after.
Dr Douglas said it will also be a collaborative effort in which government policies must create an environment where all can communicate and work together in a coordinated way, sharing ideas in order to devise and implement innovative solutions to the challenges.
"St Kitts and Nevis is the smallest independent country in the Western Hemisphere by population. We have about 50,000 people and all hands must be on deck. We cannot afford that after every general election that 45 per cent of our population are either victimized or marginalized and prevented from making their contribution to nation-building. This includes those in the diaspora as well and we cannot afford to exclude them either," said the former prime minister, who called for nationals to be embraced as they continue to play meaningful roles in the social, political and economic development of St Kitts and Nevis.
Dr Douglas pledged that the St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party will end the practice of victimization once and for all.
"We must all work together to take our country forward. Collaboration is key. We must also collaborate with like-minded countries, non-state actors, businesses, corporations and entities in the Caribbean region and around the world who share our vision and from which we can get the resources, skills, knowledge and technology to achieve our mission to elevate the quality of life of all the people," Dr Douglas said.
