Dominica to welcome MV Fram today, marking late inaugural call of season

Dominica is all set to receive the late inaugural call of the cruise season 2023-24 with MV Fram arriving today at the Cabrits Cruise Ship Berth in Portsmouth. The arrival of this cruise will mark the 15th inaugural call for the season.

On Saturday, the island received its 14th inaugural call of MV Island Sky, which also docked at the Cabrits Cruise Ship Berth. This cruise brought over 100 passengers to the island, some of whom engaged in organised tours to some of the famous tourist hotspots in Dominica. As the MV Fram will arrive to the island, the tourism officials will be hosting a plaque exchange ceremony aboard the luxury cruise ship.

The MV Fram is a passenger cruise which is operated by the Norway based Hurtigruten Group. It is named after the original Fram which is utilised by explorers Fridtjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen ah-mud-sun, and is majorly operated in the Arctic Ocean, Greenland as well as Antarctica.

The cruise boasts a capacity of 250 passengers and has a gross tonnage of 11647 and a length of 114 meters. It offers adventurous and immersive cruising experiences to all the passengers.

It is to be noted that the cruise season 2023/2024 in Dominica has proven to be a huge success thus far. As of April 9, 2024, the island received a total of 206 cruise vessels.

These cruises have brought 298,378 passengers to Dominica of which 124,808 visitors participated in organised tours, giving huge business to the local vendors, taxi drivers, tour guides and restaurants.

The Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the Discover Dominica Authority continues to be dedicated to providing a memorable and enriching experience to the visitors exploring the island’s shores.

These efforts by the tourism officials shows their commitment towards making the country’s presence known by everyone in the world and making it a top tier cruise destination. The Government of Dominica is also committed to boost the number of future cruise visits and enhance the Nature Isle’s reputation within the global cruising community.
