Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, in collaboration with the People’s Republic of China, on Wednesday launched the construction phase of the Thibaud Primary School. The groundbreaking ceremony came at a time when Dominica celebrated 20 years of diplomatic ties with China.

The school will serve as a Center of Excellence in Special Education upon completion, with additional facilities to foster our children’s talents in sports, culture, science, and the visual and performing arts.

The new Thibaud Primary School is one of six schools which will be constructed under the China Aid Project for the Reconstruction of Schools Post-Hurricane Maria. During the groundbreaking ceremony, PM Skerrit asserted that the creation of the Thibaud Primary School aligns with the Dominican Government’s commitment to providing the children of the country with optimal opportunities for success. He said that the Dominica Labour Party administration has a great track record in fulfilling promises to the citizens. Despite facing several challenges that could potentially cause delays, PM Skerrit stressed their consistent delivery of commitments.

He further highlighted that the construction of five primary schools and one secondary school in Dominica showcases a substantial commitment to enhancing the nation’s educational infrastructure. PM Skerrit also highlighted that over $80 million is being invested for the construction of these schools.

The Prime Minister, who is also the parliamentary representative of the Vieille Case Constituency, said that the school had been at the forefront of his priority list.

He pointed out that the students of the school continue to thrive and receive the best care and attention. Dr Skerrit also said that he is looking forward to how much more the school will accomplish when they move to their own child friendly learning space.

Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Fenella Wenham, said that the school will not be a modern facility but will also be a center for community activities where parents will directly benefit from learning opportunities which will be provided by the school.
