COVID-19 related hospitalisations reduced in Jamaica: PM Holness

Kingston, Jamaica: During his parliament address, the prime minister of Jamaica Andrew Holness stated that the country recorded 48 new cases on Tuesday. He stated the positive cases arrived from 1,172 samples taken from the test, which comes to a test positivity rate of 4.1%. He stated that the public sector test positivity rate is 7.7%, and it is based on more reliable PCR testing. Prime Minister stated that Jamaica had recorded a total of 46,087 while 21,446 recovered from the contagious disease, which country a 47% recovery rate. While 793 people have lost their lives to COVID-19 in Jamaica, with the most recent deaths occurring on Tuesday, Prime Minister extended sympathies to the families of people who succumbed to coronavirus in the country. Prime Minister added that in the coronavirus graph of Jamaica, the average of new cases and an average of hospitalizations remains low, and there is a lag between people with symptoms and people getting treated at medical facilities. He stated that the recent trends in coronavirus cases have displayed that the new measures imposed by the government since February 2021 are expected, and the reproductive rate has been declining. Furthermore, Prime Minister also stated that hospitalizations due to coronavirus have decreased in Jamaica, with more people showing mild symptoms of the disease. He stated that the hospitalizations are now below the capacity of medical beds available in Jamaica. Prime Minister noted that to bring the COVID-19 spike fully under control, it is critical that the country maintains the reproductive rate at below 1 for at least three (3) incubation cycles, which is totals weeks.
