This building replaced the temporary administrative booths and reception area.Following the unveiling of this building, Premier of Nevis, Mark Brantley, said, “Leadership with vision executes and sees the community benefit despite the noise sometimes being made.”
He further added that everyone in Nevis and St Kitts now benefits from the vision of investing in the water taxi pier at Oualie.Premier Brantley added that the boats are locally owned and operated and noted, “Everyone uses the facility, including those who railed against it. The local hotels, taxis, restaurants, music festival, Culturama, CPL cricket, Sugar Mas, White Sands, Troppixx, Faded, 5in1 Fete ALL benefit. This is why we must focus on the task at hand.”It is to be noted that individuals utilizing the Oualie Pier to travel between St. Kitts and Nevis have expressed high praise for the newly commissioned terminal.
The water taxi pier has, over the years, become a preferred access point to travel between both the islands. Last year, over 200,000 individuals passed through the facility.
In January 2024, 24,197 persons used the water facility at Oualie , which is more than the same period as in 2023, when 19,767 individuals used the facility.
The increasing demand of people to use the facility made the Nevis Island Administration to make major enhancements to it which will ultimately benefit everyone.
