Caribbean airlines cancels many flights over warning of a tropical cyclone

A number of flights operated by the government-owned Caribbean Airlines were cancelled or rescheduled as the region braces for a tropical cyclone that is headed for the southern Windward Islands. Authorities are forecasting to bring strong winds and heavy rains.

Schools on the island have also been closed by the Trinidad and Tobago government out of prudence.

All of CAL's domestic flights between Trinidad and Tobago, as well as its scheduled flights from Kingston, Jamaica, to St Maarten, Barbados, and Port of Spain, as well as the flight from Trinidad to Suriname and back, were all cancelled, according to CAL.

The airline also announced that it was planning flights from Trinidad to Guyana, Trinidad to Curacao, and Curacao to Port of Spain.

Caribbean Airlines advised customers to check the status of their flights by route or flight number as there would be delays to both domestic and international flights as a result of the Tropical Storm Warning issued for Trinidad and Tobago and the severe weather anticipated between June 28 and July 1.

The impacted passengers have been contacted by the airline, and they will be rebooked on the subsequent services that become available.
