Another disaster reached Haiti, destroying the Caribbean country once again. As per reports, thousands of homes are flooded after heavy rains in the country.
Thousands of homes were flooded and 2,500 families were displaced in Haiti after torrential rain caused rivers to overflow their banks, according to the civil protection office.
Rescue teams have begun evacuating individuals in high-risk zones. Flooding was triggered by over 36 hours of rain, primarily in the Caribbean country's north, with water entering the historic centre of Cap-Haitien and heavy winds bringing down trees, according to the agency.
"Residents in flood-prone and wind-exposed locations (should) take the required precautions to protect themselves," the agency said in a statement.
"Above all, under no circumstances cross flooded rivers."
The water has already impacted the village of Anse à Veau, which was near the epicentre of an earthquake that killed two people but caused only minor damage, according to the report.Natural disasters are common in Haiti, owing to the poor status of the housing, and flood-prone areas are frequently home to poor and densely inhabited communities.
A huge earthquake in 2010 killed 300,000 people, and another 2,000 died in a quake on the country's southern peninsula last year.
Haiti is already facing so many issues due to political turmoil. The President Jovenel Moise was shot dead at his private residence in Port-Au-Prince in July. Since then, gangs continue to block roads, causing unrest. Not only that, recently Prime Minister of Haiti Ariel Henry was fortunate enough to be saved from an assassination attempt on January 01, 2022.
Haiti is the poorest country in the Caribbean and Latin American region. The country is often hit by natural disasters that makes the conditions even more worse. Not only that, Haiti was also last in the region to get access to coronavirus vaccines. The medical infrastructure is also experiencing new challenges everyday.
