PM Roosevelt Skerrit discusses Omicron, education & more in 71st OECS meeting
Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerrit participated in the 71st Meeting of the Organization of the Eastern Caribbean States (OECS). The Meeting was held virtually due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.  The Meeting of OECS Heads of Government discussed the impact of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 on the sub-region. It also received updates on issues related to education, tourism and the economy.

Prime Minister Skerrit was accompanied in the Meeting by Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Business and Diaspora Relations, Dr Kenneth Darroux and Dominica's Ambassador to the OECS and CARICOM, Felix Gregoire. PM Skerrit discussed the significance of the coronavirus vaccines as the Omicron variant of coronavirus spreads across the world.  Many leaders, including the Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis Dr Timothy Harris also participated in the Meeting.  The Meeting was held virtually even in 2021 when OECS Authority discussed reports on the region's response coronavirus pandemic, with a focus on vaccine efforts. Heads of Government discussed vaccination hesitancy in-depth and reviewed various options for overcoming the problem, highlighting the severe consequences for the region's health systems and economies. When necessary, the Meeting reaffirmed the concept of sharing vaccination supplies among the Member States.
