German tourist drowned in Dominica, probe launched

A German tourist reportedly lost his life while diving in Calibishie, Dominica on April 2, 2022. The victim has been identified as 69-year-old Uwe Mullar. As per reports, he was on vacation to the "Nature Island".
The event was reported to the police sometime after 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, according to the police. The man was discovered unresponsive when police arrived on the scene.
Mullar's diving partner stated that his friend complained of feeling unwell while driving. He was eventually rescued, but when he arrived at the beach, the 69-year-old was lifeless and requested aid.
Attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful, and he was later declared dead. According to the police, a thorough investigation is underway. The German tourist is the fifth drowning incident that occurred in Dominica since 2022 started.
Other drowning incidents in 2022:
- Keshun Titre, a 22-year-old from Wesley, drowned in his neighbourhood just over a week prior to this occurrence, on March 24.
- Boniface "Bonnet" Lovelle of Coulibistrie, a senior citizen in his late 60s, drowned on March 5 while attempting to return to land while at sea.
- Dominica also saw two drownings in February, both in the north of the island. Joffre Trevor Cognet, 60, of Portsmouth, drowned on the Batibou beach in Hampstead on February 20, 2022.
- Less than a week later, on February 26, 2022, Cochrane resident Erickson "Bo" Piper, 39, drowned while swimming at Purple Turtle Beach and ultimately died.
